Ken has conducted tens of thousands of individual training sessions over his 25+ year career. He began training hitters in Los Angeles in 1995, working there through 1998 before relocating to the Seattle area. From 1998 through 2018, he trained players in Seattle, Redmond, Bellevue, and Shoreline, Washington, where his client base grew to include dozens of players who were selected in the MLB Draft, along with professional and Major League players representing numerous MLB organizations. From 2018 through 2020, he continued training hitters in Carlsbad, California, as his focus increasingly expanded from player development into technology and analytics.

From 2004 to 2014, Ken also served as an associate scout and player developer for the Tampa Bay Rays. Across those years, his work gave him direct exposure not only to individual swing development, but to the broader process of evaluating, developing, and preparing players for professional baseball.

His unique focus on timing and contact precision led to transformative results, most notably revitalizing Jeff Cirillo’s career (2005–2006) from a negative-WAR decline to near-prime-level performance. But the larger significance of Ken’s coaching career is the volume of experience behind the technologies he would later create. Tens of thousands of training sessions gave him an unusually deep empirical view of how hitters respond to velocity, timing constraints, pitch location, swing decisions, mechanical adjustments, and changing collision requirements.

Ken’s approach predates the online coaching boom. His career was built in cages, not on cameras. Long before modern tracking systems, high-speed video, biomechanical analysis, and machine learning became common in baseball development, he was repeatedly confronting questions that existing coaching methods couldn’t objectively measure: when a hitter needed to initiate the swing, how much time the hitter required to respond and move the bat, where collision needed to occur, and why seemingly similar swings produced very different results.

Those unanswered questions became the foundation for X Factor Technology.

The transition from coaching to invention was therefore a continuation of the same work. The technologies Ken developed were born from problems observed repeatedly across decades of training amateur, drafted, professional, and Major League hitters. What had once depended on an experienced coach’s ability to recognize timing and collision problems could now be measured, modeled, analyzed, and ultimately prescribed.

Ken is the inventor behind three granted U.S. patents and three currently pending U.S. patent applications. The technologies span hitter timing and systems that synchronize swing instruction to the moving baseball, collision-level video analysis, hitter-relative spatial measurement, and biomechanical systems for capturing and analyzing force-plate signals and ground-reaction-force behavior. The portfolio reflects the progression of Ken’s career: identifying problems through years of direct player development, determining what existing methods couldn’t adequately measure, and then creating technology to measure, analyze, and train those variables objectively.

With X Factor Technology, Ken has brought that accumulated analog experience into the digital era, translating decades of empirical observation into patented technologies, machine-learning-based analytics, and scientifically grounded systems for measuring timing, collision precision, movement, force production, and the conditions required for successful execution.
